Consultancy Services- Development, Training and Marketing of a Pilot Model for Climate-Smart Affordable Housing
Call for Proposals
The International Labour Organization (ILO), through the MozTrabalha project, is therefore seeking proposals for the development of a pilot model for climate-smart affordable housing in Beira, Mozambique using alternative construction materials such as soil-cement blocks and hydraform.
This pilot model aims to showcase the viability and sustainability of innovative building materials that create more employment, are labour-intensive, and promote local development. Combined with training of workers in these techniques and innovative marketing campaigns, the model will ultimately serve as a proof of concept that can be developed into a replicable and scalable model.
The overall objective is to develop and demonstrate a pilot model for climate-smart affordable housing in Beira, Mozambique, using sustainable construction materials and techniques, which creates productive employment opportunities and promotes local economic development.
The selected service provider will be responsible for the following activities:
• Develop two designs of sustainable pilot model houses, incorporating sustainable building materials and techniques.
• Conduct meetings with relevant local authorities for consultation on the design and to ensure relevant endorsement/approvals
• Conduct at least two on-site training sessions for local workers, focusing on the use of alternative construction material, including soil cement blocks and hydraform bricks.
• Oversee the construction of four model demonstration houses, (two using soil-cement blocks and two using hydraform), ensuring adherence to sustainable and resilient construction practices.
• Develop and implement a marketing strategy to promote the climate-smart housing model. This will include creating marketing materials, social media campaigns, and community engagement activities.
• Collect and analyze feedback from potential clients during marketing and site visits to refine the pilot model.
• Organize community workshops to disseminate information about the benefits of climate-smart housing.
• Engage with local cooperatives, educational institutions, and government bodies to promote the pilot model and explore potential partnerships for scaling up the project.
