Lima – More than a hundred entrepreneurs and professionals from micro and small enterprises in the regions of Cusco and La Libertad in Peru learned about the advantages of wage digitalization and were trained to transition from cash payments to responsible digital wages.

Managing wage payments digitally and responsibly is the best way for a company to become much more profitable.

Digitalizing wage payments is a more practical, transparent measure that saves time and helps generate a credit history, allowing access to loans to grow our business.

The capacity-building process for promoting digital wages was led by the Chambers of Commerce of Cusco and La Libertad, the Ecumenical Center for Promotion and Social Action (CEDEPAS) North, the Municipality of Wanchaq (Cusco), and the Ministries of Production and Labor and Social Promotion, through the Integrated Center Formaliza Peru and the National Program Tu Empresa, in collaboration with the ILO Global Center on Digital Wages for Decent Work.

A total of 102 entrepreneurs, administrators, human resources personnel, accountants, and administrative assistants from MSMEs dedicated to the tourism sector in Cusco, and the agricultural, services, and commerce sectors in La Libertad, explored various tools from the ILO Wage Digitalization Guide and learned the steps to ensure a responsible transition.

Participants also recognized the importance of involving financial service providers and communicating the benefits and limitations of the various types of financial and payroll accounts to build trust among financial service providers, companies, and workers. Additionally, they highlighted the importance of raising awareness and developing the financial education of their workers to maximize the benefits of digital wages.

The ILO Global Center on Digital Wages for Decent Work and its local partners have established a support, mentoring, and personalized advice service to help companies effectively implement what they have learned and transition to wage digitalization.
