Resilient, Inclusive and Sustainable Supply Chains Asia (RISSC)
Funded by the Government of Japan, the RISSC project aims to build more resilient, inclusive and sustainable global supply chains as an entry point and catalyst for advancing decent work, addressing human and labour right risks, and building forward better from recent global disruptions, including COVID-19 pandemic.

The ILO-Japan programme’s “Resilient, Inclusive and Sustainable Supply Chains Asia (RISSC)” project aims to support a human-centred recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic and other global disruptions which have exposed both the importance and fragility of global supply chains.Within the timeframe of 36 months (September 2022 - August 2025), the RISSC project aims to foster more resilient, inclusive and sustainable supply chains in several key sectors in Asia, by addressing human and labour right risks issues and seizing opportunities to expand decent work.
The project will focus on three sectors in three Asian countries:
- Automotive manufacturing in Thailand
- Electronics manufacturing in Indonesia
- Aquaculture production in the Philippines
Project approach
Grounded in international labour standards and tripartism, the RISSC project will:- Conduct research and analysis to better understand decent work gaps and inform actions in the selected sectors
- Develop and/or improve industry tools and advice to support decent work and responsible business practices
- Support constituents and industry stakeholders to implement related policies and actions
- Support Japanese and multinational constituents and industry partners to implement national commitments to business and human rights through the country’s new National Action Plan (NAP) and due diligence guidance.
Target beneficiaries
Working women and men, as well as employers in selected global supply chains, who will see progress on decent work and responsible business, together with greater industry sustainability and resilience from project interventions.Expected outcomes
- ILO constituents and stakeholders adopt recommendations to address decent work opportunities and challenges in selected global supply chains.
- Constituents and stakeholders prepare proposals for advancing decent work, responsible business and promoting gender equality in more resilient, inclusive and sustainable supply chains.
- Constituents and stakeholders implement policies and measures to build forward better more resilient, inclusive and sustainable global supply chains.
- Japanese constituents and industry partners effectively implement the NAP on business and human rights with a better understanding of and tools to address risks in global supply chains.
