Policy Brief
Recommendations for Jordan to ratify ILO Violence and Harassment Convention, 2019 (No. 190)
Violence and harassment in the world of work constitute a dangerous and harmful phenomenon that is widespread globally. It has deeply rooted and costly effects that threaten the stability and security of workers, the sustainability of their work, and hinder progress and development.
To address this issue, the International Labour Organization (ILO) adopted Violence and Harassment Convention, 2019 (No. 190), along with its accompanying Recommendation (No. 206), in June 2019. These instruments provide essential tools for protecting the rights of workers, ensuring a safe working environment, and establishing a common framework to prevent and eliminate violence and harassment in the world of work, including gender-based violence and harassment.
This policy brief summarizes an extensive work conducted with ILO’s national partners in Jordan including a national team established in 2020 by the National Committee for Pay Equity (NCPE) to promote a work environment free from all types of violence and harassment and to promote the ratification of C190.
