The main objective of this 10-day workshop is to strengthen local capacities and fulfil the growing demand for enterprise and business development services for micro, small and medium enterprises ToT training on the SIYB programme.
The current SIYB training content is a result of several iterations from seasoned technical experts in enterprise and business development services. Developed in 1996 as an ILO SIYB Regional Project based in Harare then, the programme has been rolled out in over 100 countries, partnering with about 2500 local institutions, resulting in 200 certified Master Trainers and a network of well over 17,000 trainers, creating over 10 million jobs – and growing.
Acknowledging the SIYB history and impact, Philile Masuku, the Director of the ILO Country Office for Zimbabwe and Namibia in her opening remarks highlighted that "SIYB is more than just a training program; it is a transformative experience designed to equip you with the knowledge, skills, and the mindset necessary to thrive in the ever-evolving business landscape."
She noted the diverse participation from government ministries and business development service providers as a reflection of the broad interest in boosting economic growth and employment opportunities in the country.

The ToT workshop will cover four essential packages as in the Generate Your Business, Start Your Business, Improve Your Business, and Expand Your Business. Participants are being empowered on how to turn challenges into opportunities and to create sustainable solutions for their communities.
The ILO's commitment to advancing economic and working conditions is evident in this and other of its initiatives.
Tendai Carlton Saunyama of Mutare based Elevation Zimbabwe noted that: "This training does provide a great opportunity to develop ideas into bankable business plans and create market linkages. It's a crucial step towards solving economic issues faced by young people."
Other participants expressed their eagerness to be applying the new knowledge to their respective fields such as Nketa Dlamini, Programme Coordinator at the Bulawayo Chamber of SMEs. He foresees great opportunity after this training: "This programme is helping us become systematic trainers, which is crucial for building the capacity of entrepreneurs. I look forward to applying these principles to benefit the Chamber and our economy."

The ILO aims to create a supportive environment for businesses to grow and create decent jobs, particularly for youth, women, and marginalized groups. This workshop is an important milestone towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and the National Development Strategy (NDS-1).
