Trinidad and Tobago
Trinidad and Tobago has been an active member of the ILO since 24 May 1963, and has been the host-country for the ILO Caribbean Office since October 1969.
Some of the more recent initiatives where the ILO is providing technical support and capacity building, in collaboration with the social partners, include a review of the national legislation governing HIV and AIDS in the workplace, skills development and lifelong learning, business resilience and sustainability, and the modernization of the country’s labour inspection systems.
Also high on the agenda is the Government’s commitment to develop a national child labour policy aimed at ending child labour by addressing its root causes and providing support to vulnerable families to create a more inclusive and equitable society in Trinidad and Tobago. The ILO Caribbean Office, within the framework of the Regional Initiative Latin America and the Caribbean Free of Child Labour, will continue to provide technical assistance to the Government and social partners to achieve this goal.
