15 November 2023
The Regional Forum, which took place in Santiago, Chile (10-12 October 2023), focused on the linkages between the environmental and human rights agendas. It provided an opportunity to share practical experiences, foster peer-learning, and discuss about the distinct, yet complementary roles of the government, social partners and business enterprises in identifying, preventing, mitigating and resolving adverse effects of business operations on both human rights and the environment.
The Regional Forum was organized by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) under the framework of the RBCLAC project. ILO provided support by facilitating the participation of representatives of employers’ and workers’ organizations in the Plenary Opening session as well as different technical sessions. ILO also led the session on Just Transition which highlighted the importance of taking into labour rights in the just transition towards environmentally sustainable economies and societies for all, based on the ILO Just Transition Guidelines, the Resolution concerning a just transition towards environmentally sustainable economies and societies for all, and the Tripartite Declaration of Principles concerning Multinational Enterprises and Social Policy (MNE Declaration).
Governments, employers and workers of the Latin American region will have the opportunity to deepen the dialogue on the labour dimension of responsible business conduct and share their experiences during the upcoming Regional Seminar on Responsible Business Conduct and Decent Work, organized in Lima, Peru (21-23 November 2023) by the RBCLAC Project, the ILO Multinational Enterprises Unit (MULTI), and ITC-ILO.
